A bit about teaching English abroad (TEFL)
An important aspect of teaching English abroad is the destination and the standard of living you will encounter. Depending on what type of TEFL contract you have secured, your employer may pay for things like your accommodation and airfare and even offer additional benefits such as language lessons or local tours. The cost of living will determine how far your TEFL salary will stretch. Many TEFL teachers are able to live well by local standards and even have the opportunity to save some money. Teaching contracts range from as little as one week in TEFL summer camps to year long commitments. This means that TEFL is something you can do at any point in your life. It can be a life changing new career or just an extended holiday or part of your gap year travel.
Requirements
Wherever in the world you decide to teach English you will need an official TEFL Scotland certificate showing that you have undergone official training and have acquired the necessary skills in order to teach English as a foreign language effectively. Learning English form a native English speaker is highly prized and most foreign schools seek out native English TEFL teachers. Find out more: TEFL Courses.
Advantages of teaching English abroad
Travel broadens the mind and so does TEFL. Teaching English abroad is a great way to meet interesting people, learn about different cultures and experience living in a country many miles from home. One of great benefits and often why people are attracted to TEFL is the fact that you get paid to travel abroad. If you thought you could never afford to visit South Korea or Argentina that is no longer the case once you have secured a paying TEFL job.
There’s nothing to hold you back from having the experience of a life time teaching English abroad.
