How did you get into teaching English as a foreign language?
A friend told me about it - I was initially too scared to do it, but it was either going to Greece to teach or stay in Hull and work in a tax office!

Where in the world have you most enjoyed teaching?
Greece. After 6 years, I liked to think of myself as half Greek.

What's the worst tense to teach?
Present Simple has so many uses, especially at higher levels and it can be tricky for students to know when to use and when not to.

How did it feel to stand up in front of a class for the first time?
I was unprepared, didn't have a lesson plan, and shaking in my sandals.

What's your favourite food?
I love a good mousaka, washed down with retsina.

What's the most interesting thing that has happened to you abroad?
Too many to mention, but it still makes me smile thinking about one of my 11 year old students bringing in a 2 litre coke bottle into class and proudly placing it on my desk. The bottle had been emptied of Coke and replaced with Raki that his dad had made. It was strong enough to run my motorbike.

What is your best TEFL experience?
Getting the exam results and telling the students.

What is your worst TEFL experience?
Getting the exam results and telling the students.

Do you have any good advice for anyone who about to head out abroad to teach English?
Give it every ounce of enthusiasm and have an open mind, and you'll have experiences to last you as long as your memory.
