Is China the world’s cleverest country?

The TEFL market in China is huge and if you are thinking about teaching English in China it might interest you to find out a little more about the country’s education system.
By the end of this decade, 4 out of every 10 of the world's young graduates are going to come from
just two countries - China and India. By 2020 China is also set to account for roughly 30% of the world’s graduates aged between 25 and 34.
As China’s education system is overtaking many Western countries, the demand for English TEFL teachers to teach English as a foreign language is in huge demand. Even in rural areas and in disadvantaged environments, qualified TEFL teachers can find work.
You can see the resilience of pupils in China to succeed, despite coming from tough backgrounds. There are also high levels of equity between rich and poor pupils. Even in poor provinces in China, schools are often the most impressive buildings and education is highly prized.
"In China, the idea is so deeply rooted that education is the key to mobility and success."
So is China home to some of the most dedicated and hardworking students on the planet? When teenagers were asked about why people succeed at school there were major cultural differences in their answers.
"North Americans tell you typically it's all luck. 'I'm born talented in mathematics, or I'm born less talented so I'll study something else.'
"In Europe, it's all about social heritage: 'My father was a plumber so I'm going to be a plumber'.
"In China, more than nine out of 10 children tell you: 'It depends on the effort I invest and I can succeed if I study hard.'
"They take on responsibility. They can overcome obstacles and say 'I'm the owner of my own success', rather than blaming it on the system."
As English is the global language of business, commerce and trade, it’s no wonder it is so important for countries such as China to employ qualified TEFL teachers in their schools. The demand for TEFL teachers in China is only set to increase.
Take an accredited TEFL course and get qualified to teach English in China.
