Keeping up your confidence

If your lesson plan isn’t working out as well as you had hoped it would, it can be easy for a difficult class to really knock your confidence. It can be tough to regain it but here are a few tips to help:

Being prepared is key

It’s a good idea to always have a backup lesson prepared because if a lesson plan just isn’t working out at all then you can scrap it and hopefully manage to salvage the lesson before all hell breaks loose!

Ask another teacher to sit in on your lesson

Asking another teacher to observe one of your lessons is a great way of increasing your confidence. It might seem scary at first but you could really benefit from any advice they have to offer and they’ll probably have a few good things to say about what you’re doing.

Observe another lesson

Sit in on another teacher’s lesson to compare notes. It should help to reassure you that you’re on right track and you will also probably pick up some handy tricks to try out yourself in the classroom.

Remember...

Sometimes things just don’t go according to plan and every teacher has to deal with lessons that go badly from time to time. Try to stay positive and enthusiastic and follow the tips above to help keep your confidence up!
