Spain
Sun, sea, sand and sangria: it’s not exactly surprising that Spain is a popular destination for holidaymakers and TEFL teachers alike. Schools look for teachers with a dynamic personality and previous teaching experience and while TEFL teachers are in demand in the country competition for positions can be stiff.

China
The TEFL industry in China is positively booming and has become a hugely popular destination for TEFL teachers. In order to obtain a work visa and therefore work legally in China you need to have a degree – working illegally risks a stint in prison, a hefty fine and a lifetime ban from ever entering the country again! The fascinating culture draws people in and teachers are never left bored with so much to see and do.

Japan
Japan is one of the highest paying TEFL destinations which is one of the reasons many are lured into the country. You need a degree to work in Japan and teaching experience is preferred by most schools but there are plenty of jobs available for those who look about. The JET programme run by the government means that you will be teaching alongside a Japanese teacher which makes for a very supportive environment, ideal for the first-time teacher.

South Korea
A good job in South Korea comes with a good wage, paid flights, accommodation and usually several other benefits. A degree is a must in order to get work but teachers with very little experience can usually find a job quite easily. The good wages mean that teachers can have a great time and travel around the country (and to neighbouring countries too) and still manage to save plenty of money at the same time!
