Shopping in Greece

I needed some milk. We're staying round the corner from where I used to live in Tripolis so I popped into the shop I used to frequent. The shop owner hadn't changed save for a few more grey hairs. There is no counter, you stand in the middle of the packed shop and ask for stuff. I had asked for some milk and was moving on to the coffee when he asked if I had been here before. He was so happy and suddenly the usually grumpy shop keeper was animated and we worked through the list with what I can only describe as frivolity. He even let me off 2 euros. Love all that.

Joe, you have a nack of making grumpy people happy! Ahh Greece, Tripolis, sounds as though you're having great fun. Isn't it wonderful that you can go back to a place you taught in years later and still be made to fee at home? You wouldn't get that on a 2 week holiday- or even a round-the-world trip. there is no substitute for working or teaching abroad. Do it NOW all while the economy is dire!

Hi, I'm thinking of perhaps living and working in Tripoli next year after I complete my degree. My grandmother passed away early this year and left her house to my family, and as I've always wanted to return to Greece to live for a while (not just for a hol)I thought I may as well use the house as I won't have to pay for accommodation. However,I would still like a job teaching English and am wondering if you know the best way to go about this? and also my greek is very rusty so wonder if this will present a problem? Hi, if you're looking for work in Tripolis, then it would be best to go over for a visit. Not many of the schools would advertise for work. I know quite a few who found work there in this way. You can always email us for more details if you like. All the best Joe
