Take a TEFL gap year
Posted by Erin MacKenzie - 13:43 on 20 July 2010
Higher tuition fees? Graduation tax? Whatever happens, students in England and Wales are going to have to pay more, says Business Secretary Vince Cable.
It’s a difficult time for students applying for university and those graduating with hopes of finding work. There are constantly reports in the media of funding for university and colleges being slashed, lecturers going on strike and hundreds of thousands of students not being able to secure a place at a university.
TEFL has often been seen as a great option for gap-year travellers for obvious reasons. Teaching English abroad opens up so many possibilities to see the world and you can also earn a decent wage to fund your travels. It’s the chance to experience another culture in the most amazing way by being integrated into local communities – an opportunity the average tourist rarely has.
With so many problems concerning further education in the UK, getting a TEFL certificate and jetting off abroad sounds like an appealing option. It means that not only are you having a fantastic time but also earning a wage and gaining valuable experience which looks good on CV when you return home.

“"TEFL has changed my life....an ambition that i wanted to fulfil for some 20 years or so. It is my passion! Can't wait to meet my prospective students...no matter which land! It has also taught me Grammar which I never learned in School. I would also love to open a school here in the East of Scotland through TEFL! We need it! Can't wait until I get my other two qualifications!" Caroline Fraser, Edinburgh” Caroline Fraser, Edinburgh
