Teaching English in Belgium

Teaching in Belgium generally requires a university degree and a TEFL certificate. Salaries range between 1,000 to 1,800 Euros per month which should be enough to pay for accommodation and other living costs – you can expect to spend about 1,100 Euros a month. It is unlikely that you will be able to save much money when working in Belgium as the costs of living is high compared to wages. The majority of work is in private language and international schools as few state schools hire native English speakers.
For UK nationals, working in Belgium is reasonably easy as the country is in the EU. Anyone from a country not in the EU will have to apply for a work permit and can expect to find it a lot more difficult to work in Belgium.
Belgium can be a very attractive country to live and work in for those interested in history and art. Brussels is a beautiful city full of museums and rich in history as well as being culturally diverse – almost 10% of the population is made up of foreigners. Belgian cuisine is highly regarded and good food will be available almost wherever you go! Also, Belgium is the producer of what is considered to be the best chocolate in the world!
