Teaching English in Cambodia

There is plenty of work available for English teachers in Cambodia just and you shouldn’t find it difficult to secure a job just as long as you don’t turn up to interviews wearing shorts and sandals! While a university degree and TEFL certificate are not necessarily required having both will greatly boost your employability and increase your chances of being employed by a good school and earning higher wages. You can expect to earn between $9-$11 (up to $15, even, if you’re employed by one of the top schools) and this wage will allow you to live more than comfortably considering the cheap living costs in the country. Unlike many other countries, sorting out a visa is reasonably hassle-free and you can arrange it at the airport when you arrive.
Violence, prostitution, drugs and corruption at all levels are rife in the country (it’s fairly important that you are properly insured) and this can put many people off seeking work in the Cambodia. However, despite these negatives there are still many people seeking work and residence in Cambodia. The locals are wonderfully friendly, the expat scene is great and you won’t be stuck for a good bar to go to at the end of the day.
