It’s no surprise that Italy is such a popular destination for TEFL teachers. Full of glamorous cities and a romantic country side, the fact that English is in great demand is simply an added incentive for TEFL teachers to teach English in Italy.

TEFL in Italy

Many students in Italy receive less than adequate English tuition at school and seek to supplement this with private tuition. This is where you and your TEFL skills come in! As well as good opportunities to teach young learners there is also a demand for business English to be taught to adults looking to improve their job prospects by obtaining English fluency. There are also an increasing number of language schools, and summer camps are always a popular option for first time or young TEFL teachers. TEFL teachers will usually be expected to interview in person once they arrive in Italy. Italian students of English are generally quite friendly if perhaps lacking a little motivation. The pay for teaching English in Italy is good and should allow you to live quite comfortably. Although your contract will vary depending where you are teaching, schools typically offer around 20-25 hours of teaching per week, leaving you plenty of time to go out and explore! The most opportunities for TEFL jobs is in an around the major cities such as Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence and Naples.
