TEFL a Great Option for Students
Posted by Erin MacKenzie - 14:01 on 15 July 2010
We have all heard about university problems lately - places being cut, lecturers going on strike and graduates struggling to find work – it doesn’t seem to be a great time to be applying for university. It’s estimated that as much as 200,000 may miss out on university places next year and for students in England and Wales it looks likely that tuition fees are going to be bumped up.
The number of young people failing to secure a university place in recent years has been increasing and with significant cuts to be made even more are going to miss out. It’s a worrying time for those who didn’t manage to get a place and also for graduates who are struggling to find work.
What options are there?
Of course, we’d love you to do a course with us but before you leave thinking we’re starting the hard sell, hear us out!
Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) teachers are in demand all over the world and while some countries are more competitive than others few are as tough as the current job market here in the UK. All sorts of people go abroad to teach English – gap year students, bricklayers, bank managers – really, anyone! If you can speak English you can teach it.
Why is TEFL a good option for gap-year students and graduates?
• You get to see the world and experience different cultures
• You will develop valuable skills that look great on a CV
• You have a great time!
• And, importantly, you get PAID!

“Our tutor made us feel at ease while still filling us full of information and providing us with the skills we may need for teaching in almost any situation. The whole weekend was better (and less scary!) than expected.” Laura Haig, Fife
