When in Peru: Machu Picchu
Posted by Kiva Richard - 16:43 on 19 June 2012
For many who visit South America, including many of our TEFL graduates, Machu Picchu is top of their list of things to see. This ancient city is located 2,430 metres above sea level and nestled on a small hilltop between the staggeringly beautiful Andean Mountain Range.
Machu Picchu was lost for nearly 400 years and only recently discovered in 1911, the Incan structure
has appropriately been named the “Lost Cities”. Archaeologists have estimated that approximately 1200 people could have lived in the area. The site holds the ruin of palaces, temples, and stone buildings that are an architectural wonder even for today.
Placed in a spectacular location a midst the cloud-shrouded Andean mountains in Peru, Machu Picchu is the best known archaeological site on the continent. Many who visit describe their experience as nothing short of magical and despite a great influx in tourism this ancient site retains its air of grandeur and mystery.
Visiting an amazing place like Machu Picchu is just one of the fantastic experiences you can have teaching English abroad. Find out where your official TEFL certificate could take you: Find TEFL Jobs.
