ILA Courses with TEFL Scotland – FAQ

Want to know more about getting ILA funding on your TEFL course?  Here are some common questions about ILA Scotland, the application process and ILA courses with TEFL Scotland.

Am I eligible for ILA funding?

To get funded ILA courses, you must be over 16, earning less than £22,000 per year and ordinarily resident in Scotland.  If you fit these three criteria, then you can get £200 of ILA funding.

According to ILA Scotland, Ordinarily resident means that you live in Scotland year after year by choice, apart from temporary or occasional absences such as holidays or business trips.  Living here totally or mainly for the purpose of receiving full-time education may not count as being ordinarily resident.  If you are not a UK national, you must be settled in Scotland (as set out in the Immigration Act 1971) immediately before the date on which you made your application.

How much funding can I get?

With ILA funding, you get a set amount of £200 towards an eligible course, including any TEFL Scotland course.

Which courses can I get free or discounted with ILA funding?

ILA courses include all TEFL Scotland courses – Check out your course options

Can I use ILA funding to cover travel costs, childcare costs or similar?

No, ILA funding only covers course fees.

How do I apply for ILA funding?

See our step by step guide.

How long before a course do I need to apply for ILA funding?

As ILA Scotland take around a fortnight to process new accounts, we would suggest applying for funding two to three weeks in advance.

ILA funding is valid for a year from the time you apply, so you can arrange to take your TEFL course well in advance if you like!

Can I book a TEFL course without my ILA number?

Yes, just select ILA funding when you book online and enter “pending” when asked for your ILA number.  You can also arrange this over the phone with one of our TEFL Advisors.  This will reserve your place on a TEFL course, but you will need to let us know your ILA account number before you start the course.

How long will it take before my funding is confirmed?

ILA Scotland take around two weeks to process accounts after your application is sent in.  You will receive details in the post once your funding is confirmed.

I’ve got my ILA number, now what do I do?

Phone TEFL Scotland on 0800 9 888 200 and give us your ILA number to confirm your booking.  You can also e-mail us at info@TEFLscotland.co.uk

What do I do with my ILA token?

Post it to us at TEFL Scotland, 16-17 High Street, Dingwall, Ross-Shire, IV15 9RU or hand it to your tutor at your classroom course.
