Honduras is a beautiful country, offering clear blue waters, unspoiled beaches, lush jungles and stunning mountains. With breath-taking scenery, a proud Mayan ancestry and rich colonial history, there is plenty for you to explore. One of the main attractions is the Copan Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site based around the remains of the ancient Mayan civilisation,
These positions are at a school situated on a coffee farm, about two hours outside the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa. This is perfect for those who really want to get back to basics; the site is extremely remote and without luxuries. Solar and wind power is used to generate electricity and to purify water. This rustic and isolated location has two distinct benefits. Firstly, this is an extremely safe and peaceful area, due to the remote location of the campus. Secondly, the climate is not too extreme; day temperatures range between 18 and 29° Celsius with mild nights. Generally, the dry season runs from January through May, with the rainiest months from June through to October.

What do these TEFL positions in Honduras entail?
You would be working in a residential school, typically teaching for around 3 hours a day. This gives sufficient time for class preparation and to indulge in excursions. Education in Honduras is normally based on repetition and memorization, but the aim of the college is to encourage learning all day so much of the teaching will not be classroom based. Instead, much of it is conversation based, for example on hikes with students. As a volunteer teacher, you are encouraged to spend time mentoring students after class, using the opportunity of informal times such as lunch in the dining room, walks or bike rides to encourage conversation and discussion.
