Where is it based?
Volunteers tend to work with a number of universities in the Khartoum and Omdurman area. You are invited to give your preference to be in or out of the capital on the application form and though we will try our best, we cannot promise that your choice will always be met.

Free accommodation and modest living expenses are provided. Although accommodation is provided the monthly sustenance will not be paid, so allow between £60 to £100 to keep yourself for that period.
Training sessions and orientation take place on arrival and there will be opportunities to work with experienced teachers in the classroom.
You must pay the price of your own airfare to and from Sudan, and unless you have insurance cover for the whole period you will volunteering, £65 will need to be paid towards insurance. This covers the first 3 months - insurance for any period beyond this is paid by Sudan Volunteering Programme.
What do these TEFL positions in Sudan entail?
In this role, conversational practice and discussion groups with university students, adults and some secondary schools are all promoted.
The basis of your agreement will be that you are available to work between 8am and 5pm, for a maximum of 5 hours per day, which will include some teaching and other informal discussion
groups. It is a maximum of 25 hours which maybe in one or more institutions if the demand arises. You must ensure you are around the institutions during these hours, even if you are not teaching, as talking with the staff and students is highly useful and required as part of your work.
Twice a week for 2 hours you will be working in one of Volunteer Programme centres where informal discussions will take place - an essential part of the programme. This will bring your total contact hours to 30 hours per week.
Job Requirements
- TEFL Scotland certificate: 120-hour

- What else do you need? Qualified and/or experienced English language or literature teachers are particularly encouraged for work in departments of Education.
Experience of teaching and travel are advantages. Good health, resilience, good humour, patience, initiative and endurance are all qualities needed.
We need enthusiastic people who want to learn how to motivate their students into expressing themselves, to overcoming their shyness and reluctance to make mistakes.
Ideally the programme encourages volunteers to stay for a minimum of 6 months plus or 9 months for non experienced teachers. This coincides with the academic year of approximately 9 months.
