Summer camps in Italy
These positions are full for Summer 2011. Check back later in the year for Summer 2012 vacancies.
About the job
This is not a traditional teaching job; it is about using engaging methods such as games, songs and drama to get the students to learn. The students are generally aged between six and sixteen and will expect blood, sweat and cheers from you.
You will also be given a 4-5 day Introduction to TEFL Orientation Course before being sent to one of our camps. This course prepares tutors for their role by providing them with exciting activities, songs and games which can help students acquire the English language. In addition, you'll be given manuals that contain plenty of ideas for dynamic lessons, drama activities, and classroom management techniques. Of course, your own creativity, input and ideas are essential for making the camps more enjoyable for the students and themselves. Knowledge of songs and suitable games is vital, while some knowledge of drama will be highly useful.
You can also be considered for other work opportunities in the post-summer period:
- To work in language schools associated with the school.
- To work as a tutor teaching English in schools all over Italy during the academic year.
- To work as an actor in a theatre department touring Italy for 3 to 7 months.
- To work in one of the school's offices in Italy.
Requirements
To apply you must:
- Be a native English speaker. You may be phoned for an interview.
- Be in possession of a valid passport. If you are in the process of applying for your passport, please send in your application followed by a copy of the identity page of your passport once you have obtained it.
- GENUINELY enjoy working with children.
- Be energetic, positive, flexible and know how to smile.
Costs and pay
Traveling costs to and from Italy are at your own expense. You are responsible for your flight and subsequent transport to orientation. You are also responsible for your travel expenses after your last camp finishes. There is also an orientation fee that covers the course, accommodation, and all meals throughout the week.
The school covers
- Full board and lodging, generally with host families but also sometimes in flats or, for Summer Camps, in hotels.
- Traveling expenses within Italy from one camp to another.
- Insurance against accidents connected with camp activities whilst working (You are, however, required to have your own health and travel insurance policy.)
Weekly pay
City Camps: 225 Euro /week
Summer Camps: 245 Euro /week
Salaries will be paid in Euros once the contract has been completed, but an advance of 50 Euros is automatically provided on the Friday of each week you work.
Duration of employment depends on the amount of camps requiring tutors as well as your performance. You will be assessed during orientation and at camp.
How long can I work?
Camps start directly after orientation. Each camp is one or two weeks long, and an average tutor works for a total of 4-5 weeks. There are two factors that will determine how long you work for: (1) your performance and (2) availability of work, depending on the number of camps. The number varies from week to week, some periods (July 20-August 20th) being far quieter than others. The number of tutors we require also varies from week to week, and work may not be available for consecutive weeks.
