Teaching English Online

Got your TEFL Scotland qualification?

Want to earn money at home in the UK or anywhere with a computer and internet?

Teaching English online is a great way to put your TEFL qualification to use and earn money. It’s especially useful if you want to work in TEFL in the UK, but, with the aid of the internet, you can teach from anywhere in the world.

Why teach English online?

• Massive demand for online English teachers
• Flexible opportunities to fit your schedule
• Set your own hours and prices
• No commuting or other work expenses
• Gain valuable teaching experience for future TEFL jobs

How to earn money teaching English online

1 – Train in online teaching methods and skills

If you already have a TEFL Scotland qualification, you already know all you need to know about teaching English. You just need to learn about the differences between classroom and online teaching, the sort of technologies you can expect to be using and what kind of activities are suited to different sorts of online English teaching.

All of this is covered in our Teaching English Online course, a new 40-hour online course from TEFL Scotland. You study with a personal tutor and will learn all of the skills and knowledge you need to teach online.

Find out what you study

The Teaching English Online course can be paid for with ILA Scotland – remember, you can get £200 every year with ILA, so even if you’ve used it before, you may be eligible for more funding!

2 – Choose the platform/website you wish to teach through

There are lots of websites out there recruiting online English teachers, meaning plenty of opportunities for you. There’s also nothing to stop you arranging your own English lessons using common platforms such as Skype.

TEFL Scotland has its own teaching platform, English-Courses-Online.com, which is exclusive to graduates of our Teaching English Online course. You can choose your own students, teach your own choice of courses and set prices for your own lessons.

3 –Teach a few practice lessons to get the hang of online English lessons

When you start using any new technology, but especially in a situation like teaching, it’s always best to make sure you know what you’re doing! Normally, you will teach a few practice lessons for free, so that if anything goes wrong, you don’t have to worry about students wanting refunds! Another benefit of teaching students in practice lessons is that students will often enjoy their lessons with you so much that they are happy to become paying students when you start charging. This allows you to get to grips with teaching English online without too much stress and, in no time, you’ll be confidently teaching students from all over the world!

4 – Enjoy your career as an online English teacher!

Often, especially with the aid of review features on platforms like English-Courses-Online.com, you can build up a reputation as a teacher and eager students will seek out your lessons specifically. As online English lessons continue to become even more popular, you should soon have more work offered than you know what to do with!
