Many European countries are popular destinations for qualified TEFL teachers. Particularly with low-cost air travel, it is not difficult to get back home for those worried about culture shock. Others are wanting to move abroad for retirement or a change of lifestyle, but want to retain some income by teaching English lessons.
Within Europe, teachers are in high demand in Spain, Italy and Greece. Also, the demand for people to teach English in Eastern Europe has been growing steadily, both in traditional language schools and in corporate settings teaching business English.
Job requirements and benefits vary a great deal across Europe. Some countries like Spain only require a 20-hour weekend TEFL course, while others will ask for more. We recommend taking at least 100 hours of TEFL training to ensure that you are eligible for the widest possible range of TEFL jobs and so that you are more attractive to TEFL employers.
