History
The country of Spain has been a major influence in shaping the world as we know it today. It has been a target for many civilizations such as the Carthaginians and the Romans fighting for its control. The Arabs conquered and ruled the country for over 700 years. The Christian Kings then took over creating the largest empire in the world after their conquest in the Americas which has now left a legacy of over 400 million Spanish speakers to this day. Eventually the empire began to decline and its territories were lost in the Americas, creating the independent countries we know today such as Chile and Argentina.

Cinema – Spanish cinema has achieved much international success. Luis Buñuel was the first director ever to achieve world recognition.

Music – Flamenco is a popular music and dance with foreigners. Also famed for its classical music and boasts forty professional orchestras.

Sport – Spain is a major world sports power and has some of the best football teams, tennis players, Formula One drivers and basketball players on the planet.
