TEFL Teaching in the UK
This came recently from Jane Hird who took one of our 3-day, weekday course earlier this year.
I completed the TEFL 30 hour course in May. I realised quite quickly that I
needed to learn grammar more thoroughly, and bought some books to help me, and also some about teaching and about TEFL.
After advertising in the local libraries, I received a call from a bilingual
family whose little girl was not making good progress in reading and spelling,
because neither parent can read or write English. I agreed to help out, which is
giving me some one-to-one teaching experience. I have unfortunately been unable to persuade the parents that I could help them, although the daughter is making good progress.
I had hoped to have a foreign student to stay in my home, through Living
Learning English, but my mother is ill, and being frail and elderly, she needs
my time at the moment.
