Volunteer TEFL positions in Sri Lanka
Looking for a meaningful TEFL position where you get to help others? Well, we have the perfect opportunity for you in beautiful, rural Sri Lanka. With this voluntary TEFL teaching position you will be helping children from some of the most impoverished parts of Sri Lanka by giving them a headstart in their future life, teaching them a really useful and necessary skill, speaking the English language.
Requirements of the TEFL Position:
A minimum of the 20 hour TEFL Scotland Certifcate (100+ Hours recommended)
No degree is needed
Preferably native English speakers
Information on the available TEFL positions:
There are volunteer placements available across Sri Lanka, in the rural parts of the north, south, east and central areas. TEFL Scotland volunteers will need to stay and teach for approximately three months, (though there is flexibility in this) and the posiitons will run from January/February 2011.
You will be teaching in state schools across Sri Lanka and the children will range from the ages of 7-18 years old. These students will have a very basic level of English with some complete beginners. You will generally be working for 20 hours per week but this can depend on the age group that you are teaching.
You will be working alongside the native Sri Lankan English teacher, where both of you will be contributing ideas and assisting each other during lessons. Furthermore you will be living with or near another English speaking volunteer so you can share and exchange ideas/advice.
Costs:
TEFL Scotland does not charge either you, the TEFL teacher, nor the overseas organisation for the recruitment of TEFL teachers.
The cost of your flight is not included and you will need to take your own spending money.
You will also need to pay £20 per week to the host family for the general cost of living and your food.
Airport pick up is included.
